MACOR machinable glass ceramic has excellent physical properties.
The materials which are produced of glass melts by steered crystallisation are called glass ceramics. The processing follows analogously the glass production. Special in the ceramic production is the special temperature treatment which transfers the glazes in a partly polycrystalline and partly glazed ceramic state.
The result is a white product similar to glass with new qualities. Main parts of Macor are a silicon oxide SiO2 approx. 46 %, magnesium oxide MgO approx. 17% and aluminium oxide Al2O3 approx. 16%.
To sum up, can be found out that by this special treatment the portion lies with so-called gleam crystals with approx. 55% what puts out numerous advantages of these ceramics. The most important result is that Macor can be worked on mechanically. It can be turned sawed, bored, milled, and be sharpened or be polished. Exact treatments become possible (tolerance +/-0,013 mm) up to feinpolieren. The treatment of the records and sticks occurs with hard metal or diamond tools. The treatment speed and the supply of special chill lubricant are decisive for the quality. Macor can be metallized in addition to the cerium Pan ends treatment, be welded and be pasted with epoxy resin film.
